Jonas Stokke

Jonas Stokke's design philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that good design should enrich people’s lives. This principle is pursued in every project, from furniture design to architectural hardware and industrial design.

Although design is not a democratic process- someone must make decisions- it is always the result of teamwork. The studio would not been able to deliver the projects it has without its internal and external collaborators. From assistants and interns to engineers and architects; from the skilled people on the factory floor to open-mined CEOs.

The design process is initiated with a pen and a knife, quickly iterating through sketches and mock-ups in card. Jonas believes in combining technology and data with the intuition of the eye and the hand.

Listening to user feedback can at times glean valuable insights, although it is important to know when to trust instincts.

Before founding his studio, Jonas was the co-founder of the renowned design duo StokkeAustad. The studio was known for pushing the boundaries of industrial design, creating pieces that garnered critical acclaim and clientele recognition. Their collaborative efforts came to a natural conclusion when Øystein Austad transitioned to an in-house role with Flokk, allowing Jonas to pursue his vision independently.

Today, his studio continues to push the envelope, blending innovative design with practical application. With each project, the studio aims to create products that not only meet the highest standards of craftsmanship but also stand the test of time, both in function and form.

His work has received wide critical and commercial acclaim from numerous successful collaborations from a diverse international client body. It has earned his work a place in the permanent collection of the Norwegian National Museum, underscoring his contribution to contemporary design.

From 2018 to 2022 Stokke served a tenure as Chairman of the Board at Designer's Saturday.

He teaches product design at Designinstituttet in Oslo and is an external examiner at KMD / University of Bergen and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
